The Dec.31-Jan.7 edition of US News & World Report has an article about ways to improve your life. I picked it up, just out of curiosity, and I was delighted to find that four of the fifty ways involve reading:
#11 is "find a book worth talking about" (they mention the terrifically titled book "How To Talk About Books You Haven't Read" by Pierre Baynard), (It's on order, you can place a hold ...)
#12 is "read with some new perspective",
#17 is "swing by your local library", and
#18 is "read an international newspaper"
Of course, I particularly like #17...so swing by the Banning Public Library and improve your life in 2008 - you might want to start by reading the rest of the article which tells you the other 46 ways to improve your life.

January Programs
The new year is coming faster than I care to believe...but ready or not it will be here next week and in the new year you will see many new programs at the Banning Public Library - almost too many to list. So one new way to keep track of our events is to check the Banning Chamber of Commerce web site and click on the calendar. (www.banningchamber.org) And don't forget to check the Library's web site calendar (click on the link on our home page) which also has information on upcoming events.
Briefly in January we are starting Thursday morning preschool story time, Saturday morning story time, Saturday morning basic computer classes, a bilingual story evening on January 14th, a program on How to Sell your Stuff on EBay on January 16th, and an after school program for girls on Wednesdays (for six weeks) starting on January 15th. I told you there was a lot ... so check out the calendars for more information.

A New Blog
Blog's are all the rage in cyberspace...I plan to use this blog (a combination of the words "web" and "log") to share ideas and thoughts and to alert everyone to new and exciting things happening at the Banning Public Library and at our Cabazon Branch Library. So for now, Happy Holidays.
