Arbor Day Poem
Friday, April 25 is Arbor Day, and April is National Poetry Month. In honor of those two convergent events, here is an oldie but goodie: Trees by Joyce Kilmer --
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me
But only God can make a tree.
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me
But only God can make a tree.

The New 3 R's
The 3 R's used to be reading, 'riting, and 'rithmetic. (Maybe they should have thrown spelling in there too...) Today, in celebration and acknowledgment of Earth Day 2008, the 3 R's are: reduce, reuse, and recycle. Happy Earth Day and do what you can to make the world a cleaner, greener place.
